CHINESE DEVELOPER REVEALS AMBITIOUS PLANS FOR SCARBOROUGH’S FIRST SKYSCRAPER.
3 Oceans Property has announced its plans for the international tourist landmark, featuring a 40-storey, twin-tower design with a twist that, with its three-level public observation deck, will dwarf the nearby Rendezvous Hotel and more than double the area’s 18-storey height limit.
Situated on the corner of West Coast Highway & Scarborough Beach Road, the site would include Perth’s first beachside convention centre, a 180-room, four-star hotel and 300 apartments.
The design by Hillam Architects has effectively taken the bulky, shoe-box sized shape allowed under the MRA’s Scarborough vision and redistributed it vertically. The design and the placement of the towers to the north of the site would reduce shadowing and preserve more of the beach view corridor.
The Chinese property and media company 3 Oceans Property, and owner of the Margaret River winery of the same name, planned to fully fund the project and, though it will sell the apartments and commercial tenancies, would keep the hotel and convention centre.
Because the project is to be fully funded by 3 Oceans Property, if approved, it could be built within two and a half years.
